Meet Joni

My plan is paint and create until every closet is full, all space under the beds used, and every wall is covered

~Joni

Joni is a self taught artist living and working in Sherman Texas. From an early age she was fascinated with patterns and small objects that she collected. Over the past 30 years, she developed her own style creating pottery, sculpture, paintings, and assembling objects into one of a kind works of art. She is a true story teller that finds excitement in puzzling together previously unrelated objects. While some of her pieces have challenging concepts, they are not only coveted by her collectors, but internationally collected.

My motto has always been, art should disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.

The pandemic has turned Joni's art world upside down. She walked into her 6,000 square foot studio filled with the most bizarre objects imaginable, and had an epiphany. She hired an estate sales company that came in and changed all her dumpster diving days and passion for rescuing of objects into cash. Vacating that huge space and setting up a studio in her home has been a life changing experience.

Now, Joni starts her day around four or five am and ponders life with her coffee, cats, and color. All her paintings begins with playful, unplanned marks on paper or canvas. Her strategy to creating is to not think about making art as an end piece, just feel good while making it. Her work is intuitive and experimental, always starting as one thing and watching it become something else. That is the beauty of letting go and figuring it out along the way. No pressure, no expectations just surprises. That is how Joni lives her life.

"My plan is paint and create until every closet is full, all space under the beds used, and every wall is covered. OccasionalIy, I will pull one out see something new and take it to new heights. I embrace my good fortune and eclectic path by creating art that has the potential to engage on an intimate level. I regard being an artist as an extraordinary privilege."
